Virtual Design
March 14, 2023
Wondering what it is like to engage virtual design services? Spoiler alert - it’s nearly the same as engaging regular full service design, minus the in-person site visits from your designer.
There is an impression out there that e-design or virtual design is an inexpensive offering or a way to minimize design investment. In reality, it is just a different way of working. As with in-person full service projects, the same research and design process is undertaken to deliver a comprehensive design presentation, including 3D renderings of the proposed space.
The initial consultation generally takes place over a platform like Zoom or FaceTime. If it is a great distance, we depend on the client (or their local contractor) to provide us with photos and measurements with help through our detailed instructions. However, if the budget allows for it, we may also fly out for a site measure and trade day.
This bathroom project was completed virtually from beginning to end during the early days of the pandemic.
We worked with the client at the outset for the initial information. We guided them through the process of interviewing local contractors and helped them select the best one for their project. Once the design presentation and budget were approved, virtually of course, we began the renovation and worked directly with the local contractor.
Yassein Interiors designed and supervised construction of a new bathroom in my house in Athens, Georgia. Not only did they come up with an “oh wow!” design, but all of this was done virtually during the pandemic. Communication was done via FaceTime. All materials were ordered in advance and delivered before construction started, and the entire construction process, from measurement, contract signing, and modifications were handled directly with the contractors. I had used Yassein Interiors on several previous houses, and I felt perfectly comfortable leaving the entire responsibility directly with Gaddah. Whenever there were issues or modifications, she spoke to the contractor directly, and I never had to run interference. I could not be happier with the result.

In some cases, clients may decide to take on implementation and project management themselves because of the distance or type of project. If so, they may choose to come back to us towards the end for additional design time to help style the finished space.
In any case, we live in a time where you needn’t be worried about proximity to your designer in order to get the design guidance you need. Whether it’s virtual, in-person, or a combination of the two, there is a solution to suit your needs.
