Top 6 ways a designer can help you see the final result - before work has even begun…

Jan 17, 2025

You’ve waited a long time and you’re finally ready to embark on the interior design project of your dreams. You have design ideas, pinterest boards, product screenshots and thoughts about colours, but you just can’t seem to pull it together and visualize what it will look like in the end. This might be a good time to engage a design professional. 🙂

One of the most important benefits of engaging a design professional is not only ensuring your remodel is harmonious with the rest of your home but also their ability to help you visualize the end result throughout the project in a variety of different ways. Here are the 6 methods we use to help our clients really see and understand their design before orders are placed and onsite work has begun:

mood boards

In the project initiation and discovery stage, our clients complete some very thorough questionnaires. From here we present a mood board where we evoke the feeling they are seeking for their space. This is where we confirm we’ve heard their input so that we head in the right direction for the coming steps.

floor plans

For our preliminary design phase, we create a 2D floor plan that is to scale, along with a furniture layout to help clients see what will actually fit into their space and how it will function for them. It allows them to see the number of pieces that will go into the space in addition to planning for custom millwork. It also helps set a baseline for the furnishings investment.

photo-realistic renders

After several weeks of research, sourcing and drafting, we are able to present a photo realistic render of the finished space to help clients visualize the end result. Here they see a representation of the various finishes and colours.

product samples

Together with photo-realistic renders, we provide actual product samples for clients to feel and touch the various components of their finished design, such as fabrics, flooring, stone, tile.

Having samples together with the renders fills in the textural gaps.

video walk-through

Probably the most anticipated stage of visualization is the 3D video walk through where clients can navigate around a realistic representation of their future space and see specific details including layout, lighting, furnishings, etc. The elation of seeing it ‘come to life’ is joyous to witness! Here is where the confidence in the end result is solidified and where the anticipation of the transformation builds.

VR tour

As a bonus for those who need just a little extra, we offer a VR tour of the finished design. Using a smartphone and a VR viewer, clients can literally walk through their finished space .
