Wellness and Design - the less obvious link

March 12, 2025

When you think of the connection between wellness and design, you may be thinking about things like air quality, sound-proofing, natural materials, and ergonomically designed furniture. While all of those things are definitely important considerations in creating a nurturing space, I would argue that there is another, equally important element. To contribute to your well being, your space needs to not only feel thoughtfully conceived, it also needs to feel like a representation of you and function for the people who live within it.

Let’s face it, life can be stressful at times. Whether it’s the political climate, your work, family, or health, we all have things that contribute to our daily stress. I am a firm believer that when you enter your home, if it REALLY works for you, you should breathe a sigh of relief and shed a little of that stress at the door. Your home should feel like a hug, a safe place to recharge.

I recently spoke with someone who had engaged a designer to decorate her home a few years ago. She admitted to me that while it looks nice, it just doesn’t feel like her. She doesn’t feel totally at ease in the space. This is heartbreaking, not only because of the investment she made, but more so because she doesn’t feel truly at home in her space. One thing we do here at Yassein Interiors, is to go through a very extensive intake questionnaire as well as an early conceptual design meeting before we develop and present a final design. Our objective is to ensure that we have listened carefully to what our client really wants, sometimes when they don’t know themselves :) !

So, while the specific material selections, comfort and longevity of pieces is paramount, the real test is how the client feels from the first time they see their finished space to the years they spend within it. It should feel like home.

Do you want to experience that in your space? Fill out a project inquiry form. We’d love to help.
